Adria Arjona has been cast as Maxima in Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming sequel in the new Superman DC Universe, directed by James Gunn.
The casting marks Arjona’s official entry into the DCU, with production already underway in Atlanta ahead of the film’s planned release on July 9, 2027.
Maxima, a character from DC Comics, is known as an alien queen who has appeared as both an antagonist and a potential romantic interest for Superman.
Arjona secured the role after testing alongside Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler and Grace Van Patten, with reports indicating a deal was close as filming preparations began.
The sequel will see David Corenswet return as Superman alongside Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. In this instalment, the two characters are expected to work together against a larger threat, Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger.
The ensemble cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart.
Fans had previously suggested Arjona as a potential Wonder Woman, a view that was acknowledged by DC Studios leadership. However, Maxima has emerged as the role she will take on in this project.
Outside the DCU, Arjona is recognised for her performance in Andor, along with roles in Hit Man, Splitsville, Father of the Bride and Blink Twice.
She is also set to appear alongside Michael B. Jordan in a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair for Amazon MGM Studios.
