Police in Zanzibar are continuing their investigation into the death of influencer Ashly Robinson, known online as Ashlee Jenae, with her fiancé Joe McCann being questioned as a witness.

According to a statement shared by the Tanzania Police Force, McCann “continues to be questioned by the Police Force and his travel document has been withheld” while enquiries remain ongoing. Authorities have confirmed that he is being treated as a witness, and no arrests have been made.

Robinson was found unconscious in her villa during a trip to Zanzibar and was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead hours later.

Police said the couple had checked into their accommodation on April 6, and she was discovered in her room two days later, before her death was confirmed on April 9.

Officials also noted that prior to her death, there had been a “misunderstanding” between Robinson and McCann, which led hotel management to move them into separate rooms.

Her family confirmed the timeline in a public statement, saying, “She and her fiancè, Joe McCann, were staying in a luxury villa at the Zuri Zanzibar, continuing what we believed was her dream trip. But just days later, that dream turned into our family's worst nightmare. Ashly was found unconscious in her villa and was rushed to a local hospital, where her death was confirmed hours later.”

Robinson’s mother, Yolanda Denise Endres, said her daughter had contacted family members shortly before the incident to explain that the couple had been separated following an argument.

Authorities have not issued a final determination, and the investigation remains ongoing.
