Lin-Manuel Miranda has revealed the ensemble cast for his upcoming film adaptation of Octet, bringing together a mix of film, television and Broadway talent.
According to Variety, Amanda Seyfried will play Jessica, while Rachel Zegler is set to portray Velma. Tramell Tillman will take on the role of Marvin, with Sheryl Lee Ralph playing Paula.
The cast also includes Phillipa Soo as Karly, Gaten Matarazzo as Toby, Jonathan Groff as Henry and Paul-Jordan Jansen as Ed, rounding out the eight-member ensemble at the center of the story.
The project marks Miranda’s latest directorial effort following his acclaimed debut with Tick, Tick… Boom! and continues his focus on music-driven storytelling. The film is based on Dave Malloy’s 2019 Off-Broadway musical, which explores themes of internet addiction through the lens of a support group.
Malloy, who created the original stage production, is writing the screenplay for the adaptation. The story centers on eight characters navigating their relationship with technology, brought to life through a cappella music and ensemble performance.
With a cast that blends established stars and rising talent, Octet is shaping up to be a major musical film project, continuing Miranda’s track record of bringing innovative stage works to the screen.
