Aftab, Shireen clinch golf tournament
Pair outplays 26 other teams at Monsoon Masti event.
KARACHI:
Aftab Ahmed Khan and Shireen Khan clinched the second Monsoon Masti Golf Tournament 2011 that took place at the Karachi Golf Club yesterday.
The duo outplayed 26 other teams, finishing with a score of 37 net, to win the amateur golf tournament while Murtaza Qasim and Arae Kazoyu finished second with 38 net. Irfan Rashid and Munazzar Yasir secured third place with 39 net.
The tournament, where a male player was paired with a female, was aimed at promoting the sport among women, according to the organiser Duradana Soomro.
“We want to promote the sport among women,” Soomro told The Express Tribune. “I’m glad so many accomplished women participated.”
Meanwhile, another participant Tahira Raza said that the most supportive element of the format was that a weaker player was paired with an accomplished one.
“I was playing with my husband and men usually play longer drives. So learning things about the team game was interesting,” said Raza.
