The Legend of Zelda has received tributes from leading game developers as the series marks its 40th anniversary, with creators from major franchises recognising its long-standing influence on the industry.

Speaking to Game Informer, Monster Hunter creator Kaname Fujioka shared his appreciation for Nintendo’s adventure series, highlighting its consistent evolution over four decades.

“As a fan, I have nothing but gratitude for the Zelda team, who, amidst the industry's rapid changes, have never given up while carefully building upon a foundation of comfort and wonder,” Fujioka said.

He also pointed to the design philosophy behind the series, describing “the gaming experience where freedom gradually expands from small puzzles within vast worlds” as “truly unique to the Zelda series.”

Fujioka added that the franchise represents “a journey of continually exploring what a Zelda game can be,” and said he looks forward to its future development.

Additional recognition came from Yonghee Cho, director of the upcoming title Pragmata, who shared his own message marking the anniversary.

He described The Legend of Zelda as “a source of inspiration in countless ways for so many game creators” and said, “It's a series that always delivers new discoveries and experiences, surprising us time and again.”

Cho also created a hand-drawn illustration featuring Pragmata’s protagonist, Diana, wearing a Link-style cap and holding a cake marked with the number 40, referencing the milestone anniversary.

Tributes extended further within the industry, with Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama describing series creator Shigeru Miyamoto as “a North Star guiding all game creators.”

The connection between The Legend of Zelda and other franchises has also been reflected in past collaborations, including crossover content in Monster Hunter titles and character appearances in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
