Simon Cowell left a school choir stunned after emerging from beneath a red sheet during what they believed was a statue unveiling, revealing instead that they would be auditioning for Britain’s Got Talent.

Seventy boys from Glantaf School in Cardiff had been told they were performing at the unveiling of a statue honouring a major music industry figure. But the moment quickly turned into a surprise when Cowell appeared from under the sheet, shouting “surprise” as the room erupted in shock and excitement.

“I am not a statue,” Cowell joked, prompting one of the boys to respond that he was “much better than a statue.”

The surprise had been arranged by choir leader Lloyd Macey, a former The X Factor contestant, who secretly nominated the group for the audition.

After the initial disbelief, the choir went on to perform “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman, earning a standing ovation and four yeses from the judges.

Cowell praised the group following their performance, telling them: “You should be proud of what you’ve done, I actually got quite emotional. This was just brilliant, this is what a great choir is all about, having fun, great song choices, great leader, seriously.”

Fellow judge Amanda Holden said the boys “did Wales proud” and added she couldn’t wait to see what comes next, while Alesha Dixon described Macey as a “fantastic leader.”

The heartwarming moment quickly became a standout highlight from the latest episode, showcasing both the choir’s talent and the power of an unforgettable surprise.
