Aerial Surveillance Wing to be set up to curb crimes
Sindh Police have decided to establish a dedicated 'Aerial Surveillance Wing' to ensure effective and continuous monitoring of cities, highways, traffic, railway tracks, and riverine (kutcha) areas. Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, Javed Alam Odho, has sought comprehensive and practical recommendations from senior officers regarding the formation of the new unit.
In this regard, the IG chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the initiative. The meeting was attended by DIGs of Headquarters, Establishment, IT, and Telecommunications, as well as the DG Safe City Authority and AIGs. DIGs from Sukkur and Larkana, as well as relevant SSPs, joined the meeting via video link.
During the meeting, the DIG IT gave a detailed briefing on existing aerial surveillance resources, modern technologies, drones, and other equipment. The briefing also covered their features, operational objectives, training requirements, procurement procedures, and expected benefits.
Participants shared their experiences, suggestions, and highlighted potential challenges related to aerial surveillance. The IG emphasised that aerial and digital monitoring is an essential component of modern policing and represents the future of law enforcement.
He stated that the use of advanced technology and aerial surveillance systems would make policing and surveillance not only easier but also more effective and reliable. Continuous aerial monitoring would play a crucial role in curbing crime, identifying suspicious activities, and enabling swift response.
The initiative is also expected to improve traffic management, crowd control, monitoring of public gatherings, and overall protection of life and property.
A committee comprising senior officers will be formed to finalise the structure, standard operating procedures (SOPs), operational framework, and organisational setup of the proposed wing.
