Overwatch has confirmed that Sombra, Lifeweaver and Roadhog will receive hero reworks in 2026 as part of an ongoing effort to refine character design and gameplay balance.
The announcement was shared in a Director’s Take blog post by game director Aaron Keller, who outlined plans to revisit multiple heroes over the course of the year.
While the total number of reworks was not specified, Keller confirmed that these three characters will be the first to receive updated kits.
According to Keller, the reworks are aimed at improving flexibility and usability without making heroes overly complex or niche.
He stated that the team is focusing on characters with “strongly defined, specific playstyles” or those “whose kits we feel have stagnated in some way” and that “don’t feel as dynamic as their newer counterparts.”
Sombra, Lifeweaver and Roadhog have each undergone multiple changes during the Overwatch 2 period. Sombra received updates in Seasons 7 and 13, including adjustments to her stealth mechanics, abilities and passive traits.
Lifeweaver was modified shortly after release, with changes to abilities and control structure. Roadhog also saw several revisions, including updates to his Scrap Gun, Take a Breather ability and the addition and later removal of Pig Pen.
The confirmed reworks will not be included in Season 2, which instead introduces other gameplay adjustments. Several previously essential perks are being integrated into base hero kits, including Mercy’s Flash Heal, Reaper’s Dire Triggers and Pharah’s Drift Thrusters.
Season 2 is scheduled to launch on April 14, with players able to access the updated abilities at that time. Further details on additional hero reworks are expected after Season 3 as Blizzard continues its planned updates throughout 2026.
