ISLAMABAD:

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Friday felicitated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on hosting peace negotiations in Islamabad between the United States and Iran, and offered his best wishes for the success of this endeavour.

Starmer telephoned Shehbaz and deeply appreciated Pakistan's effective diplomatic efforts in facilitating the US-Iran ceasefire, and the resumption of dialogue between the two countries, said an official handout.

Reaffirming Pakistan's sincere commitment to regional peace and stability, Prime Minister Shehbaz welcomed the joint statement issued by key European and international leaders, including Prime Minister Starmer, endorsing Pakistan's peace initiatives.

The two prime ministers emphasised the importance of ensuring that the ceasefire remained in place and creating the necessary conditions for lasting peace and stability in the region. They agreed to work together to lend fresh impetus to the friendly bilateral ties across all spheres of mutual interest.

The PM reiterated his cordial invitation to the UK counterpart to undertake an official visit to Pakistan.
