KARACHI:

The South Investigation Police have arrested a two-member Afghan gang involved in stealing mobile phones from shops in the metropolis.

The suspects, identified as Sher Aga and Abdul Razaq, were apprehended during a technically planned targeted operation, following a series of thefts in the city. Six stolen mobile phones were recovered from their possession.

According to SSP Investigation South Tauheed-ur-Rehman, the gang had carried out a robbery at a mobile shop in the Saddar area on March 11, cutting the shop's shutter to steal mobile phones and cash before fleeing the scene.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted to multiple incidents of theft, robbery, and snatching. They also revealed that the stolen phones were being sold in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Raids are underway to apprehend other absconding members of the gang, and further legal action against the arrested suspects is in progress.

Separately, burglars looted gold jewellery, cash and other valuables from a house in Baloch Goth, within the jurisdiction of Ibrahim Hyderi police station, officials said on Thursday.

According to police, unidentified burglars broke into the residence of one Qaiser Abbas and decamped with valuables, including gold ornaments, cash, new clothes and other household items. Initial findings suggest that the suspects entered the house through the rooftop and forced open the locks of rooms and cupboards to carry out the theft.
