KARACHI. Teachers at the University of Karachi have expressed serious concern over the growing financial crisis and delays in payment of dues, urging the Sindh government to announce an immediate bailout package.
According to a statement issued by the Teachers' Association of the university, both serving and retired faculty members are facing prolonged delays in receiving their pending dues amid rising inflation, causing significant hardship.
The association decided in its executive council meeting to draw the attention of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to the issue.
It stated that the university's financial deficit has now reached approximately Rs1.3 billion, a large portion of which consists of unpaid dues of teachers and staff pending for the past two to three years.
Association President Ghufran Alam said that despite being the province's largest educational institution, the university has been deprived of adequate government attention.
