FAISALABAD:

Despite rising inflation, a slowdown in business, and surging petroleum prices, Faisalabad residents are witnessing a refreshing transformation in their city's landscape.

The Faisalabad Horticulture Agency (PHA) has undertaken an extensive greening and plantation drive, creating vibrant green belts and flower beds at city squares, major intersections, markets, and main roads to welcome the spring season.

Ghulam Kibria, Director of Horticulture and Marketing, said that the project has focused on seasonal flowering plants, with approximately 150,000 Petunia plants being planted across key city areas.

"The Civil Lines area, including DC Office Road, Sarina Road, Balal Road, and Jail Road, has been fully covered.

Additionally, flowering plants have been planted along the RB Canal near Shahina, the D-Ground belt, and surrounding localities, as well as Jinnah Town," he said. Kibria explained that Petunia was selected for its suitability to the local soil and climatic conditions.

"This seasonal flower not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of public spaces but also provides residents with a cleaner and more environmentally friendly atmosphere," he added.

Alongside flowering plants, PHA has launched a tree plantation initiative, aiming to plant around 10,000 shade-giving trees, including Tabootia, Bottle Brush, Neem, and Baken. Approximately 200 trees have already been planted along city edge roads, with the remaining planned for the next two months.

Trees are being planted six feet apart and stand 8 to 10 feet tall to ensure long-term growth and sustainability.

The initiative has drawn praise from residents, who say it not only beautifies the city but also promotes environmental consciousness.

Citizens have been visiting city areas to enjoy the colorful displays and the tranquil greenery.

"This year's plantation and greening project reflects Faisalabad's commitment to environmental sustainability and public welfare," Kibria said.
