Kerry Condon and Maya Hawke have been cast in Netflix’s upcoming drama series The God of the Woods, adapted from Liz Moore’s 2024 novel.

The series explores the Van Laar family’s dark secrets and the disappearance of 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar from her family’s summer camp. Set in the Adirondacks, the multi-generational drama examines class tensions, privilege, and the consequences of abuse of power.

Condon plays Alice Van Laar, Barbara’s mother, described as “hardened by the grief of a past family tragedy and trapped in a contemptuous marriage.” Hawke stars as Judy Luptack, the determined investigator assigned to Barbara’s case and the first female officer in the male-dominated Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The series is co-showrun by Liz Hannah and Liz Moore, who also serve as executive producers alongside Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty for Original Film. Production is handled by Sony Pictures Television.

Condon’s recent credits include The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), Train Dreams (2025), and F1 (2025). She is also set to appear alongside Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott in Pressure, releasing on May 29.

The God of the Woods marks a major addition to Netflix’s original drama lineup, highlighting complex family dynamics, suspenseful investigations, and societal issues through the lens of a gripping mystery. The series promises to blend emotional depth with thrilling storytelling, offering audiences a suspense-filled narrative centred on the Van Laar family’s unraveling secrets.
