Alien: Earth has been officially renewed for a second season, with production plans suggesting the series could return sooner than typical modern television cycles. The renewal follows the conclusion of the first season, which was developed by Noah Hawley as part of an expanded Alien franchise.

The second season was confirmed as part of a broader deal Hawley signed with Disney on November 11, 2025. FX chairman John Landgraf said, “We can’t wait to get to work on the next season of Alien: Earth, as well as some equally exciting future projects in advanced development.”

Hawley previously outlined his long-term plans for the series, stating, “Season 1 is the proof of concept. And if it works commercially, then Season 2 is about building a model upon which we can envision making a Season 3, 4, 5.”

He added, “[It’s] designed to be a recurring series. I don’t know how many seasons that would be. I believe that endings are what give a story meaning, so I have a sense of where I’m going with it.”

Although no official release date has been announced, filming is expected to begin in 2026, with production moving from Thailand to London.

Based on this schedule, a 2027 release window is considered likely. Hawley addressed production timelines, saying, “The question becomes: how streamlined can we make the process so that you’re not waiting for three, or four, or five years for more?”

Plot details for the new season remain unconfirmed, though the story is expected to continue from the finale, where Wendy and hybrid characters take control of the island base. Additional developments include new threats approaching the setting and unresolved narrative elements from the first season.

Hawley also discussed the broader timeline of the franchise, noting, “I think what I would say is, is it plausible that the show might end up reaching the moment in which the movie begins and going beyond it? I think that’s certainly plausible.”

Actor Peter Dinklage is also reported to join the cast as a series regular in the upcoming season.
