Suspects in Dr Asif Malik attack case arrested

Peshawar police have solved the assassination attempt on renowned urologist Dr Asif Malik within 24 hours, arresting two suspects and recovering the getaway vehicle and weapon used in the attack.
The incident occurred on the night of March 31, at around 11:05 pm, when unidentified assailants opened fire on Dr Malik as he was returning home from his clinic in University Town. The doctor sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was critically injured. A case (FIR No 348/2026) under sections 324 and 427 was registered at Town Police Station on the complaint of his son, Yusuf Malik.
Police officials said the case posed a significant challenge, but a dedicated Special Investigation Team (SIT) cracked it through modern scientific methods and extensive use of Safe City CCTV cameras. The footage played a pivotal role in identifying the suspects' vehicle, a Suzuki Vezel bearing Sindh registration number BF-6845, and tracing the culprits.
The arrested suspects are Sultan Reza Jan Khan, son of Muhammad Rafiq Khan, and Shafaat Hussain, son of Muhammad Nabi, both residents of Astorzai area in Kohat. During interrogation, they confessed that the attack stemmed from a financial dispute with Dr Malik.
