Bar council to boycott K-P courts over fuel price hike

PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council on Monday announced a complete boycott of courts across the province in protest against the government's recent increase in petroleum product prices.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the General Body of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council held on Sunday. Through a unanimously passed resolution, the lawyers' body declared that all courts in the province would be boycotted on Monday.

Expressing deep concern over the continuous rise in petroleum prices, the Bar Council stated that the hike has triggered a sharp increase in the cost of transport, food, medicines, and other essential commodities, making life increasingly difficult for the common man.

The Council argued that such economic policies are not only against public interest but are also promoting social inequality.

The Bar Council demanded that the government immediately review its policy on petroleum product prices, abolish all taxes imposed on petroleum products, and remove toll taxes from all vehicles without delay so that immediate relief could be provided to the masses.

Describing the government's move as unjustified, unnecessary, and anti-people, the Bar Council said the decision had placed an unbearable economic burden on the public, particularly on those segments of society already struggling due to inflation.
