Matthew Morrison is reflecting on his relationship with Glee years after the show ended, revealing he felt disconnected from the role that made him famous, until an unexpected platform brought him back.
In an interview with People, Morrison admitted, “I feel like I’ve been so removed from it for so long,” explaining that after the series wrapped in 2015, he didn’t feel particularly tied to his character, Will Schuester.
That changed when he joined the platform Cameo, where he began recording personalised videos for fans. The actor said the experience unexpectedly reignited his connection to the show and its audience. “Then I just started doing these Cameo things that have kind of gone a little crazy and viral,” he shared.
Through those fan interactions, Morrison rediscovered parts of Glee he had forgotten, including specific musical performances that fans continued to love. “There are two songs that I kind of forgot about,” he said, noting that requests for tracks like “Thong Song” and “Tell Me Something Good” became so frequent that he incorporated them into his live performances.
The renewed enthusiasm from fans has since influenced his current work, including his one-man show Show Up, where audience members often call out for those nostalgic songs. Morrison said he’s happy to deliver, adding, “We’ll give the people what they want.”
Now starring on Broadway as Bobby Darin in Just in Time, Morrison says the experience has helped him reconnect not only with fans but also with his past work in a more meaningful way.
While he once felt distant from Glee, the actor’s recent experiences have brought him full circle, proving that the show’s legacy continues to resonate, both for audiences and for Morrison himself.
