KitKat has introduced a public tracking tool after a massive shipment of its chocolate was stolen during transit across Europe.

The brand, owned by Nestlé, revealed that more than 12 tons, equivalent to over 400,000 bars, went missing after leaving a factory in Italy en route to Poland, where the products were set for distribution.

In response, KitKat launched a “stolen chocolate tracker,” allowing customers to check whether their bars could be part of the missing batch. The company confirmed that the theft is real and is currently being investigated with authorities.

The announcement, made around April Fools’ Day, led some social media users to question whether the campaign was a marketing stunt. KitKat addressed the skepticism directly, reiterating that the incident did occur.

Beyond the unusual nature of the response, the company also pointed to a broader rise in cargo theft, noting that increasingly sophisticated schemes are affecting supply chains worldwide.

The stolen shipment was intended for European markets, and there is no indication that other regions have been impacted.
