Ryan Gosling will no longer appear in the upcoming film from directing duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, with scheduling conflicts cited as the reason for his departure.

The actor had been attached to star in the untitled project for Universal, which is being developed by the filmmakers behind the Academy Award-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once. However, production timelines were ultimately unable to align with Gosling’s existing commitments.

Filming for the project is expected to begin in Los Angeles later this year, but the schedule could not be adjusted to accommodate Gosling, whose calendar has remained full following a global press tour for his recent film Project Hail Mary. The release date for the Daniels’ film has also shifted, moving from June 2027 to November 2027.

Despite stepping away from the project, Gosling remains attached to other major productions. He is set to star in Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy, which is scheduled for release in 2027. His recent science fiction release Project Hail Mary has performed strongly at the box office, generating significant global revenue since its debut.

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, known collectively as Daniels, first gained recognition with their 2016 film Swiss Army Man. Their follow-up, Everything Everywhere All at Once, achieved both critical and commercial success, earning more than $100 million globally and securing multiple Academy Awards, including best picture.

The upcoming Universal project remains in development, with Kwan, Scheinert and producer Jonathan Wang attached through their Playgrounds production banner. Further casting details have not yet been announced following Gosling’s exit.
