Deaths despite truce

.

While the Middle East is engulfed in a state of war, people across the world are distracted by rising oil prices and the US is planning its own version of global history, Israel has refused to back down with its blatant plan to exterminate Gaza and its citizens. As per the Palestinian Ministry of Health's most recent record, the death toll in Gaza has now climbed up to 72,280 people since October 2023 - with 704 people murdered after the globally celebrated ceasefire deal that took place in October 2025.

According to the Israeli army, Israeli forces are "committed to the US-led peace plan" but simultaneously have to ensure that Hamas does not exert its influence over Gaza. But for almost two and a half years now, the world has been watching Israel paint a weak narrative about military operations against Hamas to cover up its crimes against humanity. For them, Hamas is merely a shield that allows them to escape accountability and direct admission of guilt. Around 90% of civilian infrastructure in Gaza has been affected by widespread destruction caused by the Israeli army. Nearly all 2.1 million people have been displaced from their homes. And reconstruction costs are estimated to be about $70 billion.

But amidst all this ceaseless grief and destruction, President Donald Trump is dreaming of turning Gaza into a futuristic Middle Eastern hub using foreign investment. The number of people who have lost their families and their homes is a mere obstruction standing in the way of profiting off the land of Gaza. Although the world attention is now diverted towards the Iran-US war, global leaders must not lose focus on the continued atrocities against hapless Palestinians. The rising death toll is proof enough that this genocide demands more attention.
