Megan Thee Stallion was hospitalised after exiting a performance of Moulin Rouge! The Musical in New York City on Tuesday night, according to a spokesperson for the artist.

The rapper and performer had been appearing on Broadway in the role of Zidler when she reportedly began to feel unwell during the show.

“During Tuesday night's production, Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated,” a representative said. “We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.”

Megan Thee Stallion joined the production last week, taking on the role of nightclub owner Zidler. The character was originally portrayed by Jim Broadbent in the 2001 film directed by Baz Luhrmann, which starred Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.

During her stage performances, she incorporated songs from her own catalogue, including “Body” and “Savage”.

Audience members present at the performance reported that the artist appeared in the opening scenes before leaving the stage. Attendees said they were asked to remain seated as the situation was addressed.

Her hairstylist, Kellon Deryck, also shared a message on social media, writing, “Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all at the hospital.”

The artist had previously expressed enthusiasm about her Broadway debut, stating, “I've always believed in pushing myself creatively and theatre is definitely a new opportunity that I'm excited to embrace. Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling, but I'm up for the challenge and can't wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me.”

Producer Carmen Pavlovic described the casting as a historic moment for the production, noting that Megan Thee Stallion is the first woman to take on the role.

She is scheduled to remain in the show through May 17, pending further updates on her condition.
