Wildlife dept to launch electric tram at Changa Manga
The Punjab Wildlife Department has announced plans to introduce an electric tram service at Changa Manga Forest, aimed at improving tourist facilities and enhancing the visitor experience. A modern tram imported from China has already arrived at the site, with operations expected to begin within the next few months. Additional Chief Wildlife Ranger Central Punjab, Mudassar Hassan, said the battery-powered tram can carry up to 200 passengers at a time.
"The system is designed to reduce noise and emissions, ensuring minimal impact on the forest environment," he added. Hassan explained that a new track has been laid for the tram, which passes through the forest and the zoo located within Changa Manga.
The air-conditioned coaches feature comfortable seating and advanced safety and monitoring systems to ensure secure travel for visitors. Drawing comparisons with the Lahore Safari Zoo, Hassan said tourists would be able to explore different areas of the forest while seated in the tram, similar to the electric vehicle facility at the safari park.
"The project combines modern technology with eco-friendly practices, providing safe and quality recreation for families and students, while promoting tourism and protecting forest resources," he added.
Officials noted that Changa Manga previously had a narrow-gauge railway line operated by steam engines for timber transportation.
