“The Housemaid’s Secret,” the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s box office hit “The Housemaid,” is scheduled for release on December 17, 2027, Lionsgate announced.
The original film grossed nearly $400 million worldwide on a $35 million budget and remained a strong performer throughout the holiday season despite a modest opening of $19 million.
Sydney Sweeney reprises her role as Millie Calloway, the live-in maid drawn into a wealthy family’s dark secrets. Michele Morrone returns from the first film, while Kirsten Dunst joins the cast for the sequel. The story, adapted from Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, follows Millie as she takes a new position in a household where hidden truths behind a locked door threaten to expose far darker secrets than her own.
Production on “The Housemaid’s Secret” is set to begin later this year. Paul Feig returns to direct, with screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine adapting McFadden’s second novel. Feig is producing alongside Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, Laura Fischer of Pretty Dangerous, and Sweeney through her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films.
Lionsgate is positioning the sequel as counter-programming during the busy Christmas 2027 movie season, releasing it alongside “Avengers: Secret Wars” and “Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.” The studio also plans to continue building a franchise around McFadden’s work, with a third book, “The Housemaid Is Watching,” slated for adaptation in future installments.
