Law Roach previews Met Gala 2026 looks with Zendaya

Law Roach hints at Met Gala 2026 looks with Zendaya as Fashion is Art theme shapes creative direction

Law Roach has offered an early insight into preparations for the Met Gala 2026, sharing details about the creative process behind styling Zendaya and other attendees.

Speaking at the 89th Annual Fashion Scholarship Fund Gala on March 23, the stylist discussed expectations for the upcoming event.

Roach highlighted the scope of this year’s theme, noting the potential for varied interpretations. “You're always excited to see the way people interpret the theme and Fashion as Art is a very broad theme. So, maybe we'll see someone dressed as the Mona Lisa, which I'm sure somebody will do that,” he said.

He also addressed the demands of preparing for the Met Gala, explaining that the effort involved contrasts with the brief duration of appearances on the red carpet.

“It's a lot of stress and they're only on the carpet for like five minutes, and then you go in and it's all over,” Roach said. “So, it's months and months of hard work for a five-minute payout.”

Discussing his ongoing collaboration with Zendaya, Roach described their approach as flexible. “Our relationship is so symbiotic that it could be one dress, it could be a thousand dresses. You just never know,” he said.

The Met Gala 2026 is scheduled to take place on May 4 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. This year’s co-chairs include Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour. The official theme, Costume Art, is paired with a dress code titled Fashion is Art.

Andrew Bolton, curator in charge of the Costume Institute, explained the concept behind the exhibition. “What connects every curatorial department and what connects every single gallery in the museum is fashion, or the dressed body,” he said. “It’s the common thread throughout the whole museum, which is really what the initial idea for the exhibition was.”
