Tom Felton has shared his views on the Harry Potter film series, revealing his favourite instalment while reflecting on his experience portraying Draco Malfoy.
The actor discussed his perspective during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he was asked to name his preferred film from the franchise.
Felton stated that he has not revisited the films frequently. “I’ve never seen them more than once,” he said, explaining that watching his younger self on screen feels uncomfortable. He added that he has a stronger preference for the original books, though he still selected a favourite film.
“Well, I’ll say bluntly. The second film, Chamber of Secrets, was always fun because there was a giant snake basilisk in it and Alan Rickman was in full form, and we knew our characters a little better then,” Felton said.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, released in 2002, marked a point in the series where characters became more defined, including Draco Malfoy, who had a greater presence in the story. Felton’s comments also referenced Alan Rickman’s portrayal, which he highlighted as a key factor in his choice.
The actor also discussed Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, describing it as significant for his development. “The sixth one was the most rewarding for me as an actor. I certainly wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now without the training and the learning of what proper acting sort of is or was,” he said.
In that film, Draco Malfoy is depicted facing increasing pressure and internal conflict, presenting a more complex character arc. Felton indicated that this role contributed to his growth as a performer.
Felton is expected to return to the role of Draco Malfoy in the stage production Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway, continuing his association with the franchise.
