Tom Felton, best known for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise, recently revealed that one of his most famous lines, simply saying “Potter”, became iconic in ways he never anticipated.
On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Felton, 38, admitted, “I don’t know how that's become an iconic thing. I certainly had no idea.” The line, delivered in his signature snide tone, has become a beloved meme among Harry Potter fans.
Felton explained that the way he pronounced “Potter” was inspired by teasing from his three older brothers. “They all would always call me something like ‘maggot’ or, what was I also called? ‘Runt.’ Runt of the pack,” he said, noting that his brothers’ influence shaped his performance.
Reflecting on the enduring popularity of the line, Felton added, “I don’t remember ever thinking about it for a second,” highlighting how a seemingly small moment on set evolved into a lasting part of fan culture.
Felton portrayed Draco across all eight Harry Potter films, and his character’s memorable hiss of “Potter” remains one of the franchise’s most instantly recognizable moments.
