Actor Jack Black has expressed interest in joining a live-action adaptation of the Yakuza franchise, signalling his willingness to take on a role as multiple projects move forward.

The 56-year-old revealed in a recent interview twith ScreenRant hat he is keen to be involved in a screen adaptation of the popular gaming series developed by Sega. “So I’m going to throw my hat in that ring. I think it could be a really unique opportunity to explore a different type of character,” he said.

The Yakuza franchise, also known internationally as Like a Dragon, has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide since its debut in 2006. Known for its focus on organised crime narratives and character-driven storytelling, the series has expanded beyond video games into television and film projects.

Black’s interest comes at a time when several adaptations are in development. A three-episode miniseries was released on March 17, 2026, while additional productions, including a feature film and a streaming series, are currently in progress. The growing slate reflects increased demand for video game adaptations within the entertainment industry.

Industry observers note that casting decisions for Yakuza adaptations may depend on the direction taken by producers, particularly whether projects prioritise Western audiences or maintain a focus on the franchise’s Japanese origins.

While Black has indicated clear enthusiasm for the role, no official casting announcements have been made. As development continues across multiple projects, further updates are expected as studios determine the future direction of the franchise’s expansion into live-action formats.
