Riot Games may be developing a new action role-playing game set in the League of Legends universe, according to recent job listings that point to an unannounced project in early stages.
The listings, posted on Riot’s careers page, reference two contract roles based at the company’s Shanghai studio.
One position, for a Combat Game Designer, describes work on an unnamed action or ARPG title, with responsibilities including building and refining combat systems using Unreal Engine. A second listing seeks a CG animator with experience in stylised character design.
While neither role explicitly confirms the project’s identity, both highlight familiarity with the League of Legends intellectual property as a preferred qualification. This has led to speculation that the game is set within Runeterra, the established setting of Riot’s flagship franchise.
The Combat Game Designer role specifically calls for expertise in action gameplay, with emphasis on combat mechanics, artificial intelligence and overall gameplay feel. The focus on foundational systems suggests the project is still in an early research and development phase.
The potential ARPG comes as Riot continues to expand the League of Legends franchise beyond its core multiplayer format.
Earlier developments included the hiring of Raymond Bartos, a former lead producer on World of Warcraft, who joined Riot as Senior Game Producer for its long-in-development League of Legends MMO. That project had previously undergone a reset in 2024.
Riot has not officially announced a new action title tied to League of Legends, and contract-based hiring indicates the project may still be years away from release.
