FAISALABAD:

Two police constables among seven suspects have been found involved in the abduction of a university student, police said on Saturday.

Official sources revealed, the case was registered on the orders of senior police officers after an inquiry confirmed the involvement of the accused.

The First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged under sections related to kidnapping for ransom, illegal confinement, and extortion.

The City Police Officer (CPO) Faisalabad has suspended the two constables and constituted special teams to arrest all those involved in the crime.

The victim, identified as Muhammad Muzammil, a resident of Chak 468-GB and a student at a local university, stated in his complaint lodged with City Samundri police that he was abducted on January 28 at around 6pm.

He said he was returning after refuelling his motorcycle at a petrol pump on Gojra Road, Samundri, when he was intercepted near the canal bridge by suspects, including Constable Amjad Ali and Constable Gulzaib, who were posted with the CIA Samundri unit.

The suspects allegedly posed as officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and forcibly took him into custody.

According to the FIR, the victim was taken to residential quarters adjacent to City Samundri police station, where the accused snatched his mobile phone, laptop, wallet containing Rs23,000, identity card, and ATM card.

He was allegedly subjected to torture and threatened with death if he failed to arrange money from his family.

The suspects allegedly forced him to call his family and inform them that he had been picked up by the FIA Multan Circle.

The accused, along with their accomplices identified as Muhammad Faizan, Muhammad Sufyan, Farrukh Nawaz, and others, initially demanded Rs3 million as ransom.

The complainant stated that the suspects ultimately coerced his family into transferring Rs1 million into a bank account belonging to one of the accused, Farrukh Nawaz.

He further alleged that he was kept in illegal detention for two days and released only after the suspects extorted Rs1.035 million in cash, along with his laptop worth Rs80,000 and motorcycle valued at Rs125,000.

Following the inquiry, police registered a case against all seven suspects under relevant sections of the law, including PPC Sections 384 and 342, along with Section 155-C of the Police Order 2002, and launched raids to apprehend the accused.

Authorities have vowed strict legal action against those involved, terming the incident a serious breach of law and trust within the police force.
