Lola Tung teases Summer I Turned Pretty movie and new horror projects
Lola Tung has shared new updates on the future of The Summer I Turned Pretty, while also opening up about her upcoming horror projects and rising career in Hollywood.
Speaking on Variety’s Up Next podcast, Tung revealed that she has not yet received a script for the highly anticipated film continuation of the hit series, though discussions are already underway with creator Jenny Han. The actress said she has been actively sharing ideas and is “excited” to see how the story develops.
Tung, who plays Belly Conklin, also reflected on the characters’ future, suggesting a storyline where Belly and Conrad, played by Christopher Briney, navigate a long-distance relationship while pursuing independent lives. She emphasized that fan debates—such as Team Conrad versus Team Jeremiah—are ultimately shaped by viewers’ own perspectives.
Beyond the romantic drama, Tung is expanding into darker genres with two new films. Forbidden Fruits, co-starring Lili Reinhart and produced by Diablo Cody, explores complex female friendships through a supernatural lens. Tung praised the film’s creative direction and its focus on emotional depth.
She is also set to appear in The Young People, directed by Osgood Perkins, alongside Nicole Kidman. Tung described the project as “weird and exciting,” noting that parts of the filming experience were genuinely unsettling.
Since her breakout role, Tung has seen her career rapidly evolve, including a Broadway debut in Hadestown. As she balances new opportunities, she continues to explore different aspects of performance, signaling a versatile and expanding presence in the entertainment industry.
