Tom Felton, the actor who immortalised Draco Malfoy in the original Harry Potter films, has reached out to Lox Pratt, the young actor stepping into the role for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series. In an interview on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Felton described it as “really important” to connect with the next generation, sharing his contact details with Pratt and his family.

Felton, who played Draco from 2001 to 2011 and currently stars in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway, emphasised that he does not intend to give advice. “This is your journey,” he said. “Have as much fun as possible, take as many pictures as you can, steal as many props as you can — they’ll be worth a fortune. But if you need a word of encouragement or questions to ask, I’m there.”

He noted the pressures on young actors today are markedly different than during his time. With social media and constant scrutiny, the weight on the new cast is heavier than anything Felton, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint experienced. “It’s inconceivable,” he said. “It didn’t exist, did it? There was literally physical film cameras… That’s how we grew up learning quidditch. Twenty-five years later, we’re on Broadway together — that’s mental.”

The HBO series will devote a season to each of J.K. Rowling’s books, with a Christmas release slated for the first season. Felton’s outreach demonstrates a thoughtful bridge between the original films and the new adaptation, offering mentorship without overstepping.

Radcliffe and Felton are currently performing on Broadway just a few hundred meters apart, Felton in the Cursed Child production and Radcliffe in the one-man show Every Brilliant Thing. Reflecting on this, Felton praised his former co-star’s work, describing it as “one of the best shows on Broadway other than ours.”

Felton’s gesture underscores the enduring legacy of the Harry Potter franchise and its unique culture of camaraderie among those who grew up with it. By offering guidance and support, he is helping to ensure the new cast enters the wizarding world with confidence, bridging decades of magic, nostalgia, and fan expectations.
