Andrew Garfield shares 'Spider-Man No Way Home' scenes improvised by cast

Andrew Garfield reveals 'Spider-Man No Way Home' scenes were improvised, creating cast connection

Andrew Garfield has revealed that several scenes in Spider-Man: No Way Home were improvised by himself, Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland, contributing to what he described as a shared connection between the actors.

Speaking in a retrospective interview with Hits Radio, Garfield discussed how the three actors approached their scenes together in the Marvel film, which brought multiple versions of Peter Parker into a single storyline.

“So all that sequence was improvised. The idea was, ‘You just want the three Spider-Men, the three Peter Parkers to talk about their experiences and compare notes. Let’s just do long takes and see if there’s any gold in there,’ and there was so much to choose from,” Garfield said.

The 2021 film marked a crossover between different Spider-Man franchises, with Garfield and Maguire reprising their roles alongside Holland’s version of the character.

The storyline involved the trio working together across the multiverse to return villains to their respective universes, while also sharing personal experiences.

Garfield said the project provided a sense of closure following his earlier departure from the role.

“Coming back and doing that third one with Tobey and Tom felt like a closing of the circle for me,” he explained. “It was really really nice, it was really really special for each of us to honor our own tenure, but also each other and find a very genuine brotherhood there was really really sweet.”

He also reflected on a moment in the film when Maguire’s character refers to his version as “Amazing,” a reference to his previous films.

“That moment took me by surprise, I was like ‘That was really… That was sweet,'” Garfield said. “And hearing it from Tobey who was my Spider-Man growing up, it was all just so meta and so kind of personal and perfect. I was very very happy to just be a part of it really.”
