A rising voice of patriotism

Tarab Nafees shines in Pakistan Day anthem

KARACHI:

Pakistan Day celebrations this year found a resonant cultural expression through a newly released national anthem by the Inter-Services Public Relations, featuring Karachi's emerging singer Tarab Nafees, who described her participation as a profound national honour.

The anthem, dedicated to the resilient Pakistani nation standing firm like 'Bunyan-un-Marsoos' on every front, blends themes of unity, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve. It pays tribute to both the armed forces and civilians who remain steadfast in the face of challenges.

Tarab Nafees, daughter of renowned musician and sitar player Ustad Nafees Ahmed Khan, has steadily built her reputation as a promising young artist. Before lending her voice to this national project, she had already demonstrated her musical prowess on the platform 'Pakistan Idol'.

In the anthem, she performs alongside two other singers, contributing to a composition that interweaves voices and emotions into a powerful patriotic narrative. The track, released in connection with Pakistan Day, has quickly emerged as a symbol of national spirit.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Tarab said the lyrics of the anthem reflect the passion and enthusiasm of the Pakistani people. She recalled that the recording was conducted in a concert-like setting, complete with a live audience that remained deeply engaged despite intense heat.

"The energy of the crowd was remarkable," she said, noting how attendees supported the performers with continuous applause and remained present until the final moments of recording, embodying a visible sense of national pride and collective fervour.

She described the moment she was approached by ISPR for the project as indescribable. "Opportunities like this do not come easily," she said, adding that she considers it a major personal and professional honour to be part of such a production.

Tarab credited her family for their unwavering support throughout her journey. She emphasised that while her father's musical legacy shaped her foundation, her mother played a pivotal role in nurturing her passion for singing and guiding her towards this achievement.

The anthem itself stands as a tribute to a proud nation, portraying citizens and armed forces united in purpose. It captures the essence of bravery and sacrifice witnessed in what it terms the 'battle for truth', presenting a compelling blend of emotion and national identity.

Through its composition and message, the song highlights themes of dignity, loyalty, and unity, while reinforcing the enduring and unbreakable bond between the people of Pakistan and their armed forces, a relationship depicted as both timeless and resolute.
