Hudson Williams and Dylan O’Brien join Sofia Banzhaf’s thriller ‘Apparatus’

Hudson Williams and Dylan O’Brien star in Apparatus, a thriller about a ride-share driver lured into a violent spiral

Hudson Williams and Dylan O’Brien have been cast as the leads in Apparatus, an upcoming thriller from writer-director Sofia Banzhaf.

The independent feature is gearing up for a production start in Toronto on March 30.

The film centers on Tyler, a struggling ride-share driver who believes his fortunes have changed when he encounters JP, a charismatic entrepreneur. JP lures Tyler in with the promise of a dream opportunity, but the arrangement soon descends into a violent downward spiral, testing the protagonist’s limits. Williams is set to portray the lead role of Tyler, while O’Brien will play the enigmatic JP.

Sofia Banzhaf, known for her distinctive voice in Canadian independent cinema, directs from her own screenplay. The project is currently in pre-production, with filming scheduled to take place on location in Toronto. Industry insiders expect the shoot to utilize various urban settings throughout the city to capture the gritty, tense atmosphere suggested by the logline.

The casting pairs two sought-after actors: Williams continues to build a resume of intense dramatic roles, while O’Brien, a veteran of both blockbuster and independent films, steps into the role of a charismatic antagonist. Apparatus is being produced under the banner of a Canadian production company, with details regarding additional casting and distribution to be announced.

With its focus on economic desperation and manipulation, Apparatus aims to deliver a taut psychological thriller when it releases, likely targeting the festival circuit following post-production.
