Pokémon Champions is set to launch on Nintendo Switch on April 8, 2026, introducing a new battle-focused experience for players. The title will also be available on Nintendo Switch 2 through a free update, which will provide enhanced visual clarity for users on the newer hardware.

The game centres on competitive Pokémon battles, building on mechanics established in previous titles. Players will engage using familiar systems such as Pokémon types, Abilities and moves, allowing for a wide range of strategic approaches. Both Ranked Battles and Casual Battles will be available, offering options for competitive and relaxed play styles.

A Pokémon Champions + Starter Pack bundle will also release on the same day. This version includes the base game along with additional in-game features such as expanded Pokémon storage space and an extra battle track.

Cross-platform functionality is a key feature of the release, with a mobile version also in development. Players will be able to battle across Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, expanding accessibility and matchmaking opportunities.

The game will also integrate with Pokémon HOME, enabling users to bring select Pokémon from previous titles and Pokémon GO into their teams. This connectivity aims to extend the usability of existing collections across the wider Pokémon ecosystem.

Several Mega-Evolved Pokémon will appear in the game, including Mega Meganium, Mega Emboar and Mega Feraligatr, originally introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. These forms will feature newly discovered Abilities that alter battle dynamics.

Mega Meganium will have the Ability Mega Sol, allowing it to use moves as if under harsh sunlight conditions. Mega Emboar’s Mold Breaker Ability ensures its moves are unaffected by an opponent’s Ability. Mega Feraligatr will gain Dragonize, which converts Normal-type moves into Dragon-type moves and increases their power by 20%.

Pokemon Champions aims to expand the competitive battle experience when it launches in April 2026.
