Apple TV’s acclaimed series For All Mankind will conclude with a sixth and final season, creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi confirmed. The announcement arrives ahead of the return of the series for its fifth season and the premiere of the spinoff, Star City, which will explore the space race from the Soviet perspective. Star City is set to debut on May 29, alongside the final episode of Season 5.

Since its debut on November 1, 2019, For All Mankind has stood as one of Apple TV’s longest-running original series, earning recognition for its alternative-history take on the U.S. space program and the global implications of the Cold War. The series examines how the world might have evolved had the Soviet Union reached the moon first, leading to accelerated technological advances and societal changes, including an earlier push for gender equality and the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment.

Wolpert and Nedivi said in a joint statement that concluding the series with Season 6 allows them to realise the story as they originally envisioned. “Getting to explore the For All Mankind universe over six seasons has been an amazing privilege, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to finish the story the way we’ve always hoped,” they said. Apple TV programming chief Matt Cherniss praised the series for its innovation and enduring appeal, highlighting the show’s storytelling and the creative vision of the production team.

Season 5, which begins on March 29, continues the series into the 2010s, depicting Mars as a thriving colony while tensions rise between the planet’s inhabitants and Earth. Returning cast members include Joel Kinnaman, Toby Kebbell, Edi Gathegi, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña, and Wrenn Schmidt. New additions include Mireille Enos, Costa Ronin, Sean Kaufman, Ruby Cruz, and Ines Asserson.

Throughout its run, For All Mankind has received awards for interactive programming and emerging media, alongside nominations from the Critics Choice, TCA, Hugo, Saturn, and other industry organisations. Producers emphasise that Season 6 will bring the story up to the 2020s, completing the narrative arc that began with the 1969 divergence and imagining how the world could have developed had humanity pursued continuous progress.
