Beauty in Black star Xavier Smalls apologizes after backlash over anti-LGBTQ remarks

Xavier Smalls, known for his role in Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black, has issued a public apology after facing backlash for controversial comments about LGBTQ people.

The actor came under fire after an Instagram Live video from February resurfaced, in which he referred to LGBTQ individuals as an “abomination” and compared them to other “sinners,” sparking widespread criticism online.

In a lengthy statement, Smalls said he has since reflected on his words and taken time to listen to others’ perspectives. He acknowledged that his comments were hurtful, admitting that “the damage done by my words outweighs the intent behind them.”

He expressed regret for the pain caused and said he hopes people can see his sincerity moving forward.
