'Lilo & Stitch 2' and 'Incredibles 3' release dates confirmed by Disney for 2028
Disney has confirmed release dates for two major animated sequels, with Lilo & Stitch 2 set for May 26 2028 and Incredibles 3 scheduled for June 16 2028. The announcement was made by chief executive Josh D’Amaro during a shareholder meeting.
Both dates were previously reserved by the studio as untitled releases, and currently, there is no competing film scheduled for either slot.
The May release positions Lilo & Stitch 2 over the US Memorial Day weekend, a period often associated with strong box office performance.
The decision follows the commercial success of the live-action Lilo & Stitch, which recorded a $182 million four-day opening over the Memorial Day holiday, surpassing Top Gun: Maverick, which earned $160.5 million during the same period in 2023.
The film went on to exceed $1 billion globally, with $423.7 million generated domestically and $614.2 million internationally.
Meanwhile, the Incredibles franchise continues to be a significant property for Pixar. The first two films, The Incredibles and Incredibles 2, achieved a combined global box office total of $1.87 billion. Incredibles 2 ranks among the highest-grossing animated films worldwide.
For the third instalment, Brad Bird is attached as writer and producer but will not direct. Directing duties will be handled by Peter Sohn, known for his work on Elemental.
