The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notices to the attorney general for Pakistan and the advocate general Punjab, seeking their assistance in a petition challenging the de-notification of sitting judges from election tribunals.
The court adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
Justice Khalid Ishaq heard the petition filed by PTI leader Rao Umar Hashim, who was represented by Barrister Sameer Khosa.
The petitioner contended that amendments to the Election Act were made to unlawfully appoint retired judges to election tribunals. It was further argued that the ECP has no authority to transfer election petitions from one tribunal to another.
