Sophia Bush has provided an update on the status of the proposed One Tree Hill revival, indicating that progress on the project remains uncertain.

Speaking at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Oscars viewing party in Los Angeles on March 15, Bush reflected on early discussions surrounding the reboot and the enthusiasm shown by the original cast. “You know, we have done such great work and it’s been really incredible to see every single person in our cast got excited about that phone call, had amazing ideas about where their characters would be, what stories they’d want to explore,” she said.

However, she suggested that broader changes within the media industry may be affecting development. “I would say that we’re all very aware of what’s happening to media right now and who media is being bought by, and I don’t know that any of us are the current media conglomerates’ best friends or favorite people,” Bush explained.

Despite the uncertainty, the actor expressed a measured outlook on the project’s future. “But I’m OK with that. I’m patient, if nothing else,” she added, noting, “That’s the classiest way I can say it!”

Ashlyn Harris, who was present during the interview, commented on the situation, saying, “That was a long-winded way of [saying], ‘You’ll have to wait and see.’”

Plans for a revival were first reported in August 2024, with Bush, Hilarie Burton and Danneel Ackles expected to serve as executive producers. The project was linked to Netflix, with Warner Bros. Television attached as the studio.

Bush had previously confirmed the development, writing, “What if you really can go back home? If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up.”

The original series aired from 2003 to 2012 and continues to maintain a dedicated audience.
