Seven women killed, as roof collapses in Rahim Yar Khan

As per Rescue 1122, a large number of women had gathered at payment point to receive third installment under BISP

Seven women were killed and several others were injured when the roof a building collapsed in Chak No 123/P Tibba, Union Council No 114, Rahim Yar Khan on Monday.

According to the Rescue 1122, the incident occurred when a large number of women had gathered at the payment point to receive the third installment under the Benazir Income Support Programme. 

Upon receiving the information, the deputy commissioner and district police officer immediately reached the site while Rescue 1122 initiated prompt rescue operations. More than ten ambulances and rescue vehicles were deployed to the scene. 

Rescuers with the assistance of local residents, removed debris and shifted the injured to Sheikh Zayed Hospital for immediate medical treatment.

As a result of the collapse, seven women lost their lives while several others sustained injuries. 

Rescue teams and the district administration immediately launched relief operations, providing medical assistance to the injured and initiating a comprehensive investigation into the incident. 

Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen accompanied by Regional Police Officer Ghazi Muhammad Salahuddin, visited Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan to inquire about the health of the injured. 

Deputy Commissioner Rahim Yar Khan Zaheer Anwar Jappa, District Police Officer Rahim Yar Khan Irfan Ali Samo, and other officials were also present.

The deputy commissioner immediately declared an emergency at the hospital and directed all doctors and paramedical staff to report for duty. The hospital administration implemented the orders promptly to ensure that injured victims received immediate and quality medical care. 

Later, the deputy commissioner and district police officer visited the hospital to meet the injured and received a detailed briefing from doctors regarding their medical condition. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) has been ordered to investigate the incident and submit a detailed report within 24 hours.

Two years ago, at least 12 people, including three children, were killed in a stampede during the distribution of Zakat at a private company near Norris Chowrangi in the Sindh Industrial and Trading Estate area.

According to a volunteer of the Edhi Foundation, the stampede occurred after a power line reportedly fell during the ration distribution. However, the claim was later denied.
