Actor Gwyneth Paltrow made a striking return to the 98th Academy Awards, stepping onto the red carpet in a bold gown that quickly drew attention online.

The ceremony, held at the Dolby Theatre, marked Paltrow’s first appearance at the Oscars in 11 years. The 53-year-old actor and Goop founder attended the event as a presenter.

Paltrow, who won Best Actress in 1999 for her role in Shakespeare in Love, wore a custom ivory silk gown by Armani Privé that embraced the “naked dress” trend with dramatic effect.

The strapless design featured crystal embellishments along the neckline and daring sheer panels that created the illusion of slits running up both sides of the dress, revealing much of the actor’s silhouette while maintaining coverage through subtle fabric detailing.

Paltrow attended the ceremony to present the inaugural Best Casting Oscar, which went to Cassandra Kulukundis for the film One Battle After Another. The appearance also marked a rare Oscars outing for the actor, who has largely stayed away from the ceremony in recent years.

Online reaction to the look was mixed. Some social media users praised the actor for embracing a bold fashion moment and confidently leaning into the sheer “naked dress” trend, while others criticized the revealing design.

Despite the divided reactions, Paltrow’s red carpet appearance quickly became one of the most talked-about fashion moments of the night, with many noting that the daring gown stood out among the evening’s looks.
