According to the artist, her initial comments were made without knowing the extent of accusations involving women connected to the painter. She explained that her previous perception of Picasso had largely been shaped by the widespread recognition of his artistic legacy rather than detailed knowledge of his personal history.
Rosalía stated that she believes it is important to avoid speaking confidently about topics without adequate understanding. After learning more about the allegations, she said she felt it was necessary to address the issue and clarify her position.
The controversy began following a conversation with writer Mariana Enriquez for the podcast series Spotify Presenta. During the discussion, Rosalía expressed admiration for Picasso’s work and said that separating the artist from the art had not previously bothered her.
Following criticism online, the singer apologized to women whose experiences connected to the painter have been documented, saying she regretted appearing insensitive or dismissive of their testimonies.
Rosalía also emphasized that she considers herself a feminist and acknowledged that she should have approached the topic with greater awareness and sensitivity.
The apology has since circulated widely on social media as the conversation around separating artistic work from an artist’s personal conduct continues to spark debate among fans and cultural commentators.
