Lucy Liu explains why Devil Wears Prada 2 connects to something bigger
Lucy Liu teases Devil Wears Prada 2 as "everything everyone wants" as sequel prepares for May 2026 release

Lucy Liu is giving fans a reason to get excited about the upcoming Devil Wears Prada sequel, teasing that the long-awaited film will deliver exactly what audiences are hoping for.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the TIME Women of the Year Gala on March 10 in West Hollywood, the 56-year-old actress was asked to describe the sequel in just one word. Liu quickly dismissed the challenge as "impossible" before offering a promising hint about what's to come.
"Well, I would say it's going to be everything that everyone wants it to be," Liu told reporters at the event, where she was honored as one of TIME's Women of the Year.
Liu joins the star-studded ensemble for The Devil Wears Prada 2, which brings back original cast members Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt. The sequel follows the characters as they navigate the changing landscape of magazine publishing, with Blunt's character now working as a high-powered executive for a luxury group.
The Kill Bill star previously opened up about her excitement joining the franchise, describing the experience as "really fun" during an interview last September. She noted the film's connection to fashion, calling it "more classic than you would think" and praising fashion's ability to be both "political" and "whimsical."
Alongside Liu, the sequel adds an impressive roster of new talent including Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Kenneth Branagh, and Broadway stars Helen J. Shen and Conrad Ricamora. Theroux recently described working opposite three-time Oscar winner Streep as "thrilling," noting that despite initial nerves, she proved to be "fabulous" and a "quality actress" to work alongside.
Original cast members Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman also reprise their roles from the 2006 hit.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 arrives in theaters May 1, 2026.
