Warding off dengue: Each warden to get two bottles of repellent

Every traffic warden is to get a two-month supply of mosquito repellent for use while they are on duty, said Chief Traffic Officer Syed Ahmed Mubeen on Saturday.

Addressing a meeting of traffic police officers on Saturday, Mubeen said that 12,000 bottles of repellent had been bought from Karachi and each warden would get two bottles. He said that the traffic police had a duty to protect its wardens from dengue and it would use all means available to carry out this duty.

He said that Allama Iqbal Medical College would organise a seminar at their auditorium on Monday for 1,500 wardens to educate them about the dengue virus and precautionary measures. Principal Prof Dr Javed Akram will deliver a special lecture at the seminar, he said.

Mubeen said that wardens had been appointed to check up on colleagues at Services Hospital and Jinnah Hospital who were infected with dengue. The traffic police chief also visited infected wardens in the two hospitals on Saturday.
