A new report has revealed that celebrity chef Anne Burrell kept a personal journal detailing emotional struggles before her death in 2025.

Burrell, widely known for her work on the Food Network and hosting the series Worst Cooks in America, died at the age of 55. Authorities later ruled her death a suicide.

According to reports, investigators found a journal and a note in the bedroom of the chef’s Brooklyn home. Burrell was discovered unresponsive in the bathroom by her husband, Stuart Claxton. Police said Claxton noticed the bed was neatly made, which he described as unusual, before finding her inside the bathroom.

Officials also reported that several over-the-counter medications were present at the scene. The medical examiner later determined that Burrell died after ingesting a combination of substances, including ethanol, diphenhydramine, cetirizine and amphetamine.

Sources cited in the report suggested that Burrell had recently been considering changes in her career path. She had reportedly expressed interest in stepping back from reality television and exploring new creative opportunities, including acting and improv performance.

Despite her public persona, those close to the chef reportedly described her death as unexpected.

Burrell’s work across television, cookbooks and culinary education made her a prominent figure in the food and entertainment industry for more than a decade.
