Paul McCartney once revealed that Yoko Ono shared an unexpected thought about John Lennon shortly after the legendary singer’s death in 1980.

In a past interview that recently resurfaced, the former The Beatles member recalled Ono calling him and suggesting that Lennon “might have been gay.”

McCartney said he responded that he did not believe that to be the case based on his experiences with his longtime bandmate.

“I said, ‘I don’t think so, certainly not when I knew him,’” McCartney explained, adding that the pair had spent years together during the 1960s and were frequently around women at the time.

McCartney also noted that he and Lennon often shared rooms while touring but said there was never anything that suggested a romantic relationship between them.

The revelation originally surfaced during a 2015 interview but has recently gained renewed attention following the release of McCartney’s documentary, Man on the Run.
