Blizzard Entertainment has launched a new collaboration between Overwatch and Nier: Automata, introducing themed skins, a redesigned lobby and a limited-time event tied to the Project YoRHa universe. The crossover went live on Tuesday, March 10.
The collaboration brings several characters from the Nier: Automata universe into Blizzard’s hero shooter through cosmetic skins. Kiriko appears as 2B, Vendetta is reimagined as A2, and Wuyang takes on the role of 9S.
Additional skins in the Overwatch x Project YoRHa collection depict Lifeweaver as Adam and Mercy as Commander White.
The collaboration also includes references to the android support Pods from the original game. In the event cosmetics, Kiriko’s 2B skin is paired with Pod 042, while Wuyang’s 9S skin is accompanied by Pod 153.
Blizzard said the crossover features five Legendary skins alongside a themed lobby co-designed by Nier: Automata artists Kimihiko Fujisaka and Koda Kazuma. A dedicated collaboration event hub has also been added to the game.
Players can earn additional cosmetic items by completing event challenges during the collaboration. Rewards include name cards, a player title and a weapon charm inspired by the crossover.
The collaboration arrives as Square Enix reported that Nier: Automata has sold 10 million copies worldwide since its release in 2017. The publisher has also hinted at future developments for the franchise, stating: “Nier: Automata to be continued…”.
