Why did Luka Dončić separate from his fiancée? What we know so far
Luka Dončić has reportedly separated from his longtime fiancée Anamaria Goltes amid a custody dispute involving their two daughters.
The Los Angeles Lakers star confirmed the split in a statement to ESPN, saying the decision came after difficulties bringing his children to live with him in the United States during the NBA season.
“I love my daughters more than anything and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the US during the season, but that hasn’t been possible,” Dončić said, adding that ending the engagement was a difficult decision made with his daughters’ well-being in mind.
Sources said the situation became public after Goltes reportedly filed a petition in California seeking child support and attorney fees. People familiar with Dončić’s situation said he had no prior knowledge of the filing and has always covered his daughters’ expenses.
Dončić and Goltes, who have known each other since their youth in Slovenia, began dating in 2016 and got engaged in July 2023. They welcomed their first daughter, Gabriela, in November 2023 while Dončić was playing for the Dallas Mavericks, and their second daughter, Olivia, in Slovenia in December 2025.
The dispute reportedly escalated during Dončić’s visit to Slovenia for Olivia’s birth, when a disagreement occurred between the couple. Police were called after Dončić left the hospital, but officers later said they found no evidence of a criminal offense.
Despite the personal situation, Dončić continues to perform strongly on the court, averaging a league-leading 32.5 points per game this season.
