Matthew Fox is opening up about why he stepped away from Hollywood for several years at the height of his career.
Best known for playing Dr. Jack Shephard on the hit series Lost, Fox recently reflected on his decision to take time away from acting and focus on life outside the entertainment industry.
In a recent interview shared by Variety, Fox explained that the break was largely intentional. After years of working steadily in television and film, he felt it was the right moment to dedicate more time to his family.
The actor said he had reached a point where he felt satisfied with many of his professional goals. After appearing in the 2015 Western film Bone Tomahawk, Fox believed he had essentially completed the “bucket list” of roles he wanted to achieve as an actor.

“I felt like it was time to engage really intensely with my family. I had missed some of their childhood because I was on set all the time with ‘Lost’ and doing films.” pic.twitter.com/aYcwoSbusYDuring his time away from Hollywood, Fox focused primarily on family life while also exploring other creative interests, including music and writing.
Fox’s career has also included past allegations that drew public attention. In 2011, he was arrested in Cleveland following an alleged altercation with a female bus driver. Prosecutors later decided not to press charges, and a civil lawsuit filed by the driver was eventually withdrawn.
Around the same time, his Lost co-star Dominic Monaghan made accusations about him on social media, claims that Fox strongly denied.

Now, the actor appears to be gradually returning to the screen. Fox is set to appear in the upcoming series The Madison, part of the expanding Yellowstone universe.
